About Jenny

Jenny is a wife, mother, grandma, artist and accountant living and working in western North Carolina.

A sense of belonging?

Following in my daughter’s footsteps, I’ve begun to wonder if my own aspirations might not be better served by picking up certifications here and there that would help me to be better qualified for what I already do, and whatever I might do in the future.

I’m a licensed CPA and support that licensure with membership in the national association and my state association.  I work primarily as a financial director for a small company; would that make a CMA appropriate to pursue (especially given that my title doesn’t really reflect my role at my company)?

The rest of my job, the part that isn’t defined by my CPA, is largely related to human resources.  Is it time for me to consider pursuing further education in the HR field?  I already attend a variety of lunch-and-learns (some more lunchy than learny) but I tend to feel woefully underprepared for some of the things that come up in my day-to-day work (oh, how I dread conversations with our HR lawyer, or worse still with the DOL and ESC!).

I never intended to be an HR (semi)professional.  Perhaps it’s time to take my unexpected move into that role more seriously.
