Kitty cat stew: It’s what’s for dinner

Oh, dear. It looks like Chupa’s time is up. This morning she foolishly tried to beat me to the bathroom, causing me to trip, land belly first in a pile of longer-than-usual under-the-bed boxes, slide my shoulder into the closet door frame, and finally halt my progress by hitting my head against the closet […]

Kitchen

We are going to add a 5′ section of cabinets and countertop to the kitchen! It’s older but made of wood and in decent shape. We’ll have to provide our own countertop but then we’ll have a kitchen with much more utility. Yay!

Mugging for the camera

These awesome mugs are the key to my successfully bringing leftovers to work for lunch. They have a great lid with a rocker-opening to let the steam out when microwaved. They used to come only in bisque white, but now come in great colors. We found ’em on sale recently for $5.50 (approx) and […]

Things we did last weekend (I think)

We spent part of a Saturday recently with friends, looking at houses, eating good food, antiquing. Here are some of those things, with brief commentary: [caption id="attachment_3719" align="aligncenter" width="508"] How cool is this? But for $995, I’d hope it would have BOTH headlights still attached.[/caption]   [caption id="attachment_3717" align="aligncenter" width="304"] I’ll cover my backyard in […]

Pool party

Els bought a swimming pool for us for Mother’s Day – and we finally got around to installing it tonight (though I think we need to empty it, level the ground, and install it again – or more likely figure out how to pay someone else to do that for us). The water was cold. […]

Dorothy

Just some photos from yesterday of Ms. Dorothy. She stayed home with Marc while I went off to the readings at Warren Wilson; when I returned we grabbed a quick bite to eat, then home for a quick attempt at a nap (unsuccessful) before Marc and I headed off to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream […]

Haul

Amazing what $110 can buy: enough diapers to last until Dorothy is potty trained, plus toilet paper for the rest of the summer! CVS was clearancing the old packaging on diapers, and mismarked some Charmin toilet paper. The result was great for us!

Fire pit

Someone pointed out that I don’t have a picture of the completed firepit up here – I don’t know how I missed that! – so here one is: [gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="post_date"] We grill out a couple nights a week (at a minimum!) and the fire pit is seeing good use as a marshmellow-delivery-system. ;)

Our updated backyard

This is another photo heavy post. :) We’re working on making our backyard into the paradise we’d like to enjoy. Lately we’re grilling out two or three times a week, while sitting under our new canopy and chatting. This is so much nicer than eating inside and then watching television (but I do love our […]

Before + After

Look! It’s a dresser! Els bought this terrific older dresser for $65, and we added two coats of flat white paint and a top coat of glossy paint. She changed out two of the knobs and *kaboom* a fabulous new dresser! [gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="ID"]
