The view from across the road, around 2pm today. Lovely, yes??? The view from our front door; a friend noted that it looks like Narnia. :) Okay, my title is probably pretty gross once I hit the topics it covers: Warm: we added approximately $325 in K-1 Kerosene to our tank last Thursday and now have heat again. In other warm news, my new pink heated throw (my price: $29 including shipping) is amazing. We received three heated blankets as gifts last [...] …so we’re experimenting with some homemade insulation for our windows. I’ve done one of the two windows in the kitchen so far. We only bought a small package of bubble wrap, so we could see how well it worked. When we can, we’ll pick up a larger package and do the other windows in the [...] ….and inside, too! The monitor heater is again giving us troubles. I wonder if there’s someone in the area who services them this year (as last year we had an accidental service tech, being as we couldn’t find any one who actually serviced Monitors here). My guess is we’ll need to plan to replace the heater before [...] Morris Broadband bought out our local cable franchise. The switch in services happened yesterday. Or happened yesterday if you consider that we’re being billed by Morris for our outage instead of Mediacom as “switched”. As of this morning Morris Broadband’s website still says, as it did when the outage began, “We are aware that our high [...] This week my folks were here! We enjoyed shopping (at the Gaffney, SC outlets), fine dining (at home and away), and conversation. Marc helped Poppa sort genealogical records. When Maya and Poppa left, they left behind photos and stories for me to scan. I can’t wait to dig in this weekend! Speaking of the weekend, here [...] We replanted the entire garden some weeks back (due to invasive, and thoroughly evil, grass). Here are some progress photos to show how far we’ve come, and how much further we clearly have to go! This is our sole squash plant. It blooms in yellow every evening as the cool weather approaches, with the blooms mostly [...] My guess is our fall and spring will begin to include a fair number of (food) on a stick meals. The fire pit is just that cool! We’re starting this week with (probably) hot dogs, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, kabob meat (maybe!), and refrigerator biscuits on a stick. Last night Marc and I pulled by our local Mast [...] We have a fire-pit now! Trevor kept the flames going while we enjoyed a hot dog (Allison) and s’mores (everyone else, and Allison). It was everything we hoped it would be. Looking forward to enjoying it the rest of the summer, into the fall, and for always! Whee! With the garden coming along, it’s time to think about what to do with harvested herbs. This super neat sun-drying frame seems like a good, and inexpensive, plan. |
